Beau Jest Strikes a Perfect Chord with ‘On My Own’ – A Vibey Anthem for Modern Love and Independence

The rising R&B/Pop duo Beau Jest is back with a brand-new single, “On My Own,” an exploration of the internal tug-of-war between staying single and falling harder than you expected to with a hookup. Known for their laid-back vibe and raw authenticity, Beau Jest has once again captured a moment of relatable human experience in their signature, effortlessly cool sound, this time with a track built on a warped vocal sample, Juno synths, African-style electric guitar, and a driving backbeat.

The seed for Beau Jest was planted years ago at a packed house party at Wesleyan University, where Austin and Zac whipped up beats for a heated overnight rap cipher that nearly shut down the party, sparking the creation of what would later become their musical identity. Fast forward a few years, after the two toured in the live band for Brooklyn’s Tiny Victories, and both artists went their separate ways—Austin pursuing acting in Emmy-winning shows and Oscar-winning films, while Zac dived into solar power by day and recording engineering by night, contributing to tracks for artists like DJ Khaled and Autre Ne Veut.

It wasn’t until the quiet days of the pandemic that Austin and Zac began meeting up regularly to form Beau Jest and craft the unique blend of eclectic arrangements and sincere lyrics that defines their music today. After laboring over demos in a Brooklyn courtyard, they found a groove that merges both members’ creative worlds. Their music feels like hanging out with them—unpretentious and vibey in a way that could soundtrack a rooftop party while the lyrics tell stories of real everyday human experiences.

“On My Own,” written and recorded by Beau Jest and mixed by Daniel Lynas (A$AP Mob, SZA, Kaytranada, Tei Shi), is a track about the push and pull of being single and content, only to have someone come along and throw that balance into disarray. The track’s rhythmic vibe-filled production creates the perfect backdrop for lyrics like: “Sapphire and pearl, Your fire burns, The tables turn, I never learn.”

These words capture the essence of the track, an ode to the confusion and excitement that arises when freedom suddenly becomes less appealing because of one person’s impact.

The duo has brought in a powerhouse team to perfect this release, with mastering by Joe LaPorta, adding the final polish to a song that reflects their sonic maturity. As fans and newcomers tune in to “On My Own,” they’ll find themselves pulled into the world of Beau Jest and wanting more.
