Brooklyn Michelle Brings Jazz, Soul, and Cinematic Storytelling Together in “Boo!”

The Austin-based singer, producer, and visual artist embraces a new era of contemporary R&B with a striking music video that showcases her creative vision.

In an industry where artists are constantly searching for ways to stand apart, Brooklyn Michelle is carving out her own lane by bringing music, filmmaking, and visual artistry together. The Austin, Texas-based singer, songwriter, producer, and filmmaker is continuing her artistic evolution with “Boo!”, a release that introduces a jazz-influenced direction while highlighting her passion for cinematic storytelling.

Blending contemporary R&B with soulful instrumentation and an unmistakable vintage influence, “Boo!” represents a creative shift for Brooklyn Michelle. Moving away from the pop and dance-driven sound of her previous EP, Facade, the artist has embraced live instrumentation and a richer musical palette that draws inspiration from the timeless character of artists like Amy Winehouse.

For Brooklyn Michelle, however, the music itself is only one part of the experience. Her ability to build an entire visual world around a song has become one of the defining elements of her artistic identity.

At 29 years old, Brooklyn Michelle has already established herself as a multidisciplinary creative with experience in music production, mixing engineering, painting, and video production. Having spent six years developing her career in the music industry, she has increasingly gravitated toward the filmmaking process, where her artistic interests intersect.

While she enjoys every aspect of creating, producing and directing music videos holds a particularly special place in her career. Bringing visual concepts from imagination to screen allows her to explore storytelling beyond traditional songwriting.

That passion is evident in the production of “Boo!”, a project that Brooklyn Michelle produced, directed, and edited herself.

Rather than relying on a single setting or conventional performance footage, she approached the music video as a collection of immersive visual experiences, incorporating a jazz club atmosphere, custom LED visuals, and an underwater sequence.

Each environment contributes to the video’s distinctive aesthetic, bringing together elements of vintage glamour, imaginative production, and contemporary visual artistry.

The production of “Boo!” took Brooklyn Michelle and her collaborators across several locations in Texas, with each scene requiring a different creative approach.

The jazz club sequence was filmed at Wav Room in San Antonio, providing an intimate backdrop that complements the song’s soulful musical direction.

For another sequence, Brooklyn Michelle incorporated footage she personally captured at the Corpus Christi aquarium. She transformed that material into visuals displayed on a custom LED wall built in Seguin, Texas, in collaboration with JAWS Audio.

One of the video’s most inventive sequences took place underwater, although the production setup was considerably more unconventional than audiences might expect.

The scene was filmed in her mother’s swimming pool in San Antonio. To capture the footage, the production team placed a camera inside a fish tank while positioning a speaker directly above the water, allowing Brooklyn Michelle to lip-sync to the song during filming.

The video also brought together an accomplished group of collaborators, including director of photography Trent Owens of PSDNYM Films, choreographer Ember Hunick, and vintage stylist Alexandra Stevens of St. Evens.

The choreography and vintage styling further reinforce the project’s jazz-inspired atmosphere, with visual influences that echo the classic elegance of Amy Winehouse.

For Brooklyn Michelle, the experience was about much more than the finished video.

“This has by far been my favorite music video to produce, film and edit,” she shared.

She described the production as an opportunity to collaborate with close friends, learn ballroom choreography, experiment with vintage fashion, and enjoy the creative process from beginning to end.

“This video was made with so much love and laughter.”

That collaborative energy is central to what makes “Boo!” a meaningful release in her growing catalog.

Brooklyn Michelle’s latest creative chapter follows several significant milestones in her career.

Her previous release, “They Don’t Get It,” earned a feature on Billboard’s homepage and accumulated more than 60,000 Spotify streams, helping introduce her music to a wider audience.

She has also collaborated with acclaimed rapper Mick Jenkins on the track “Cold,” demonstrating her versatility and ability to work across different musical styles.

Her career has additionally included media recognition from outlets such as Refinery29 and Billboard Sound.

Beyond streaming and media attention, Brooklyn Michelle has continued strengthening her connection with live audiences. One notable accomplishment came when she sold more than 300 tickets for a performance at Stable Hall, a historic live music venue in her hometown of San Antonio.

These achievements reflect an artist steadily developing her presence while maintaining control over her creative direction.

Rather than confining herself to one genre or visual identity, Brooklyn Michelle continues to experiment with new approaches to songwriting, production, and performance.

The transition from Facade to “Boo!” marks an important development in Brooklyn Michelle’s musical journey.

Where her earlier material leaned more heavily into pop and dance influences, her recent work explores the expressive possibilities of jazz and contemporary R&B.

Working with a live band has allowed her to pursue a more organic musical direction, emphasizing instrumentation, atmosphere, and the emotional character of each composition.

The Amy Winehouse influence is especially apparent in the stylistic world surrounding “Boo!”, from its vintage-inspired fashion to its jazz club setting.

Yet Brooklyn Michelle’s approach remains distinctly her own.

Her background in production and visual art gives her the freedom to shape the sound and presentation of her releases as interconnected creative works. The result is an evolving artistic identity that values experimentation without losing sight of personality and authenticity.

For listeners discovering Brooklyn Michelle through “Boo!”, the release offers an introduction to an artist whose ambitions extend well beyond the recording studio. With a growing catalog, notable collaborations, and an increasingly distinctive visual approach, she is building a creative world where music and filmmaking complement one another.

As Brooklyn Michelle continues expanding her artistic vision, “Boo!” stands as a testament to the possibilities of independent creativity, proving that some of the most compelling projects emerge when an artist is willing to experiment, collaborate, and bring an idea to life entirely on their own terms.
