Playlist Envy caught up with recording artist Juan Minatta to talk about his single “Run Away” and plans for the future.
PE: What inspired you to start music?
Since I was a kid, music has always been an important part of my life. My grandad used to be the singer in a band called Los Vandalos, which he formed along with some of his friends, so seeing him perform and make music played a huge part in making me want to pursue a career in music.
PE: If you weren’t doing music what other career do you see yourself doing?
Actually, I’ll be starting my sophomore year of college this february. I’m a very creative person and I would always find myself learning about businesses and the strategies they use so I decided to do a Marketing degree.
PE: When you’re working, what inspires you or what do you draw inspiration from?
Before heading to the studio, I always like making a playlist with reference songs so I can show to my producer the sound I’m looking for and also to set the mood for the session. My main source of inspiration are my real life experiences but if there’s nothing specific that I would like to talk about, I just let the ideas flow until I find the perfect topic for the song.
PE: Is there any advice you would like to give your younger self for coming into the music industry or something to help the songwriting/producing process?
I’d tell my younger self to be more confident about his musical direction, if it sounds true to you, then your job is done.
PE: What’s the meaning of your track “Run Away”?
I wrote Run Away a few years ago, when I was like 14 or so, about how I was feeling at the time. However, it wasn’t until 2019 that I found the song again and felt a deep connection to it and even though it was an experience from my past, I still wanted to tell that story cause It holds an important place in my heart and It’ll be forever a part of my story.
PE: What do fans of yours have to look forward to in the near future, are there any surprises to come?
There are! I’m currently working on my first body of work, which is super exciting. I still don’t know whether it’ll be a full album or just an EP but new music is definitely on it’s way.
